The Unity Of Skovlan is an unofficial collection for Blades in the Dark about the impact and aftermath of The Unity War, consisting of a campaign titled The Unity War, a short story titled The Legacy of Stonetable, and a rules supplement called Fractured Unity.
Due to licensing issues, The Unity of Skovlan will not be Kickstarted. This is a huge sadness for me, and the fact that I won’t even be able to sell it directly fills me with sadness. However, I am forging ahead with a new plan. Please consider donating, rating, or reviewing if you get even a smidgen of joy from the immense amount of work I’ve done for this project.
The Unity War is a prequel campaign to a game of Blades, though it can be played on its own. It tells the story of Alx Squad, an independent squad in the Skovlan military in the Unity War. The campaign starts at the beginning of the war, and follows the seven soldiers of Alx Squad throughout the whole 36-year War. Players will rotate control of individual Soldiers as they go through Missions, trying to survive and win the War. In the end, they cannot win. Alx Squad are not legendary heroes from the Unity War. They are just seven Soldiers, trying to do what they can against an overwhelming force that will, eventually be triumphant. Play The Unity War to experience an exciting war story, give context to the revolution coming to Doskvol, and experience a streamlined lead-in to Blades’ rules.
The Legacy of Stonetable is a short story about a Skovlander Mend living in Charhollow. It follows a day in her life as she tries to make a living in the vibrant but oppressed refugee neighborhood.
Adding additional rules and options, the Fractured Unity supplement zooms in on Charhollow, a district in Doskvol dominated by Skovlanders, both long-present residents and refugees from the Unity War, the 36-year conflict in which the Imperium, led by their Immortal Emperor, violently imposed their claim of ownership over Skovlan. Fully compatible with Blades, the rules focuses the core of Blades on the close-knit and downtrodden revolutionaries who have not accepted the subjugation of the Skovlanders.
In the lead-up to the release, I have written an extensive series of articles exploring everything about the project. Seriously, it’s 35k words in total over 35 entries, two-thirds of the word count of the 180 page book. They are mostly being posted to Tumblr — I had them scheduled there when I got the news that I couldn’t sell the game and I got into a bit of a funk and haven’t set up an additional more-neutral publishing solution. For now, they’ll be linked here.
